Why We're the best

Deck & Fence Construction Built For Windsor Conditions

Building a lasting deck or fence in Windsor means accounting for Southwestern Ontario's freeze-thaw cycles, seasonal moisture, soil movement and changing weather conditions. From foundations and structural connections to material selection and local permit requirements, we build outdoor structures around the conditions they'll face for years to come.

  1. Foundations Built for Freeze-Thaw Conditions                      Concrete footings, helical piles and proper drainage help protect outdoor structures from frost heave, soil movement and Windsor's seasonal moisture.
  2. Structural Framing & Connections That Last                              Ledger boards, beams, joists and posts are connected with appropriate structural screws, joist hangers and corrosion-resistant hardware to create a strong, durable load path.
  3. Drainage & Moisture Management For Outdoor Structures   Proper grading, water runoff and drainage help prevent moisture from collecting around deck footings, fence posts and structural framing. We plan outdoor structures to manage water effectively and reduce soil erosion, wood deterioration and premature movement over time.

OUR PROCESS

How We Build Your Deck or Fence From Start to Finish

Every deck and fence project starts with understanding your property, your goals and how you plan to use the space. From the initial site assessment and design through site preparation, construction and final walkthrough, we manage each stage with a clear plan and attention to the details that keep your project moving smoothly.

01

Site Assessment & Project Consultation

Our initial assessment includes lot grading, drainage patterns, property access, existing structures and utility locations. In Southwestern Ontario, factors such as clay soils and seasonal ground movement can influence foundation, layout and construction decisions, so these are considered before the project moves into design.

02

Design & Project Planning

Project planning considers deck dimensions, joist direction, beam placement, stair locations, railing layouts and fence or gate positioning. Privacy requirements and outdoor living features are considered here as well.

03

Permits, Locates & Site Preparation

Confirming the property's zoning designation and required setbacks under Windsor Zoning By-law 8600, preparing site plans and permit drawings, and submitting deck applications through Cloudpermit. Utility locates, property boundaries and site access are addressed before excavation and construction begin.

04

Construction & Installation

Construction progresses from footings and posts through beams, joists and structural framing before decking, railings, fence panels and gates are installed. Deck stairs incorporate properly sized stringers, consistent risers and treads, secure framing connections, landings and required handrails. Connections and alignment are checked throughout the build.

Final Walkthrough & Project Completion

The completed project is reviewed for railing and gate operation, stair transitions, fastener placement, board alignment and overall fit and finish. Final details and cleanup are completed before we walk through the finished deck or fence with the homeowner.

DECKING MATERIALS

Decking Materials & Railing Options

Material selection affects appearance, maintenance, durability, performance, and budget. We install a range of wood, composite, PVC, hardwood, and railing systems for homes throughout Windsor and Essex County.

Composite Decking

Composite Decking

Composite decking combines wood fibres and recycled polymers to create durable, low-maintenance deck boards that resist moisture, staining, fading, and decay. We install capped composite products from Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon using manufacturer-approved hidden fasteners for a clean finish. Composite boards provide consistent colour and dimensional stability through Windsor's hot summers, freeze-thaw cycles, with no staining or sealing needed.

Pressure-Treated Wood

Pressure-Treated Wood

Pressure-treated lumber uses preservatives such as micronized copper azole (MCA) to protect exposed wood against brown rot, white rot, fungal decay, termites, and other wood-destroying organisms. This economical softwood decking is well suited to Windsor’s humid summers and wet seasonal conditions, while treatment helps protect vulnerable wood from moisture-related deterioration and carpenter ants that commonly establish galleries in damp, decaying wood.

Cedar Decking

Cedar Decking

Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is a lightweight, straight-grained softwood valued for its rich colour, dimensional stability, and naturally durable heartwood. Cedar contains protective extractives, including thujaplicins and lignans such as plicatic acid, that contribute to resistance against wood-decaying fungi. Left unfinished, cedar gradually develops a silver-grey patina, while penetrating stains can preserve its warm natural appearance.

Ipe Hardwood Decking

Ipe Hardwood Decking

Ipe (Handroanthus spp.), also called Brazilian walnut or ironwood, is an exceptionally dense tropical hardwood with a Janka hardness of approximately 3,680 lbf. Its natural oils and tight grain provide excellent resistance to abrasion, insects, and decay. Ipe installation requires carbide-tipped blades, pre-drilled pilot holes, stainless-steel fasteners, and sealed end grain to help prevent end checking after cuts.

PVC Decking

PVC Decking

Cellular PVC decking is manufactured from foamed polyvinyl chloride without the wood fibres found in traditional composites. A co-extruded capstock protects the cellular core from UV exposure, stains, moisture, mould, and surface wear. Because PVC expands and contracts as temperatures change, proper board gapping and manufacturer-specified fastening are important for accommodating thermal movement.

Aluminum & Glass Railings

Aluminum & Glass Railings

Aluminum railing systems combine extruded metal posts, pickets, top rails, and powder-coated finishes to create strong, corrosion-resistant deck guards. For more open sightlines, framed systems can replace pickets with tempered safety-glass panels secured between aluminum posts. Glass and aluminum guards provide a clean architectural finish while reducing the painting, staining, and refinishing associated with traditional wood railings.

After the windstorm in Tecumseh damaged our cedar fence, we decided to replace the entire thing. They helped us choose a taller privacy fence with a custom gate, and the workmanship was outstanding. Every post is perfectly straight, the gate closes smoothly, and the yard finally feels private again.

So, we wanted more than just a deck, we wanted an outdoor living space where our family could spend the summer. They built a beautiful multi level deck with privacy screens and enough room for our barbecue, dining table, and grandkids. It's become the centre of our home during the warmer months.
From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, communication was excellent. They explained the permit process, answered our questions about the Building Code, and kept us updated throughout construction. It's rare to find contractors who are this organized. Thank goodness we did!
We needed a new fence around our corner lot in LaSalle, along with two custom gates for easier backyard access. The installation was clean, the property was left spotless each day, and the finished fence has already received compliments from several neighbours. Money well spent!

COST & BUDGET

Deck & Fence Cost and Budget

Deck and fence installation costs in Windsor vary with project size, materials, site conditions, structural requirements and design complexity. The pricing information below provides realistic planning ranges and explains the factors that can affect your final contractor estimate.

How Much Does a Deck Cost in Windsor?

For budgeting purposes, professionally installed decks in Windsor and Southwestern Ontario commonly fall within these approximate 2026 planning ranges:

Decking MaterialTypical Installed RangeExample 200 Sq. Ft. Deck
Pressure-Treated Wood$30–$55 per sq. ft.$6,000–$11,000
Cedar$45–$75 per sq. ft.$9,000–$15,000
Composite$60–$95 per sq. ft.$12,000–$19,000
Premium Composite / PVC$90–$130+ per sq. ft.$18,000–$26,000+

Elevated construction, stairs, premium railings, demolition, difficult access and complex foundations can increase total project cost.

How Much Does a Fence Cost in Windsor?

Fence installation is typically priced by the linear foot. Current Ontario and Canadian installed-cost data suggests the following approximate planning ranges:

Fence MaterialTypical Installed RangeExample 100 Linear Ft. Fence
Chain-Link$15–$40 per linear ft.$1,500–$4,000
Pressure-Treated Wood$27–$60 per linear ft.$2,700–$6,000
Cedar$45–$85 per linear ft.$4,500–$8,500
Vinyl / PVC$30–$75 per linear ft.$3,000–$7,500

Fence height, privacy designs, 4x4 versus 6x6 posts, gate openings, post-hole excavation, removal of an existing fence, slopes and difficult access can move a quote toward the upper end of the range.

Planning Your Deck or Fence Budget

A realistic project budget should account for more than decking boards or fence panels. Demolition and disposal, excavation, footings, structural framing, stairs, railings, gates, privacy screens, site preparation and permit-related requirements can all affect the installed price. Compare contractor estimates by scope of work, not simply the final number.

Wood vs. Composite Deck Cost

Pressure-treated lumber generally offers the lowest upfront installation cost, while cedar occupies a higher price tier. Composite products such as Trex and TimberTech cost more initially but reduce ongoing staining and sealing requirements. Compare installation cost, maintenance requirements and expected service life when choosing a decking material.

Wood vs. Vinyl Fence Cost

Wood fencing provides flexibility in board orientation, privacy layouts and custom construction, while vinyl/PVC fencing offers lower routine maintenance. Installed prices can overlap depending on fence height, post requirements, gate openings and design, so compare both upfront installation cost and expected maintenance.

Every project is unique. These figures are approximate 2026 planning ranges based on Windsor/Southwestern Ontario market data and are not project quotes. Final pricing depends on the property, materials, design and scope of work.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Deck & Fence FAQs for Windsor, ON

Deck installation costs depend on square footage, deck height, structural framing, foundation requirements, stairs, railings and material selection. Pressure-treated lumber generally offers the lowest upfront cost, while cedar, composite decking and PVC typically cost more. For current estimates by material and deck size, see our **Deck & Fence Cost and Budget** guide above.

Fence installation is typically priced by linear footage, with costs varying by fence height, material, post size, gate openings, excavation and site access. Chain-link and pressure-treated wood generally have lower upfront costs, while cedar and vinyl/PVC can move into higher price ranges. See our Deck & Fence Cost and Budget guide above for current installed-cost estimates.

A building permit is generally required in Windsor for decks more than 600 mm (24 inches) above grade. Deck projects may also need to meet Zoning By-law 8600 requirements for setbacks and lot coverage, along with applicable Ontario Building Code requirements for structural framing, guards and stairs. Permit applications can be submitted through the City of Windsor’s Cloudpermit system.

Project timelines vary with size, design complexity, site preparation, material availability and weather conditions. A straightforward fence or ground-level deck may move quickly once construction begins, while elevated decks, complex stair systems, demolition, permit approvals and custom features can extend the schedule. We establish the expected construction timeline during project planning.

Composite decking such as Trex and TimberTech typically costs more upfront than pressure-treated lumber but requires less ongoing maintenance, with no routine staining or sealing. Pressure-treated wood offers a lower initial installation cost, while composite provides advantages in moisture resistance, colour retention and long-term maintenance, making the better choice dependent on your budget and how long you plan to own the deck.

For maximum backyard privacy, solid-board wood fencing and vinyl/PVC privacy panels are popular choices. Cedar and pressure-treated fences can use board-on-board, horizontal or tongue-and-groove layouts to reduce sightlines, while fence height, gate placement and lot layout should also be considered when designing a privacy fence for a Windsor property.

Yes. Existing decks and fences can often be repaired, resurfaced or partially rebuilt when the underlying structure remains sound. We assess deck framing, joists, beams, posts, footings, fence posts and structural connections to determine whether targeted repairs make sense or whether replacement offers better long-term value.

Yes. Sloped or uneven properties may require adjustments to footing depths, post heights, beam elevations, stair layouts and fence panel transitions. Site grading, drainage, soil conditions and equipment access are evaluated so the deck or fence can be designed around the property's existing terrain rather than forcing a standard layout.

Compare more than the final price. A detailed quote should clearly identify the scope of work, materials, demolition, footings or posts, structural framing, railings, gates, permits and site cleanup included in the project. Also compare workmanship warranties, insurance coverage, project timelines and payment terms so you're evaluating what each contractor is actually providing.

We provide deck, fence and pergola construction throughout Windsor and Essex County, including LaSalle, Tecumseh, Amherstburg, Lakeshore, Essex, Kingsville, Leamington and Belle River. Project availability depends on location and scope, but we serve both established neighbourhoods and surrounding residential communities across the region.
